Christmas day, sitting in the warmth with friends and family, treating yourself to a tipple a little earlier than usual as you all eagerly unwrap presents and bask in the joy of giving. Now it’s your turn, and you unwrap your gift and widen your eyes to reveal a fine bottle of whisky shimmering in the lights from the Christmas tree. Sounds nice, doesn’t it? We certainly think so, and whilst at Grain & Glass we don’t sell full bottles directly, Birmingham boasts lots of fantastic whisky shops that can help you give your loved one that unparalleled Christmas joy.

Here’s our guide on some of the shops that we believe should be on your Christmas shopping list.

Connolly's Wine

On the stretch where Livery Street meets the ring road, you’ll find Arch 13 wine bar, a must-stop for any foody and wine lover. Nestled inside, Connolly’s Wine shop boasts a fantastic selection of whiskies, wines and beers. Make sure to pop in for a bite during your shopping ventures and check out this hub of delicious treats.

Hard To Find Whisky

Our neighbours in the Jewellery Quarter have a serious whisky selection. Once you cross the threshold, you’ll be welcomed to a whisky spectacle: an array of whisky stretching from the everyday dram to the extremely rare. Come visit the historic Jewellery Quarter and gaze upon this fantastic collection and secure the right bottle for your Christmas whisky shopping. We’re also only down the road if you fancy a popping in for a dram after whetting your appetite.

The Whisky Shop

Situated directly ahead of the main entrance to Snow Hill station, the Great Western Arcade hosts many fantastic businesses. In the centre of the arcade, you’ll find The Whisky Shop. These folk have a fantastic collection of whisky and an amazing knowledge, and you can even bottle your own whisky from some of the experimental casks they have sitting in the shop! Be sure to check them out on your ventures, this one is a must.

Loki Wine

Whilst in the Great Western Arcade, you’ll also find the fantastic Loki Wine Merchant. They’re not only a shop, but are home to a wonderful wine bar, conveniently serving many delicious wines with their self-service system. You’ll also find a great selection of wines and whiskies that are sure to tick off a few boxes on your Christmas shopping list.

Located just outside the city centre in the rising cultural hub of Stirchley, Winestop! offers an enviable selection of whisky at some great prices. As the name suggests, they’re not just whisky too, and there are some great drinks to be had from this excellent independent business. If you’ve already been here, then you’ll know that the selection on the shelves isn’t all that is to be had, and it’s worth asking a few questions to find what hidden gems are lurking behind the scenes! We recommend travelling that extra way to see these folk and explore their range.

Nickolls & Perks are located quite some way out of Birmingham, in the town of Stourbridge, but they’re well worthy of an honourable mention as their presence in the Birmingham whisky scene is huge and they’re long-time friends of Grain & Glass. They’re easily reachable from the Snow Hill (and Jewellery Quarter) train line and they boast a fantastic selection of whisky, including some whisky only available to them.

Be sure to add these excellent whisky outlets to your circuit, and say hello from the team at Grain & Glass!
